To enhance the efficiency, precision, and cost-effectiveness of its latest flagship printing machine, JK Machinery partnered with Mitsubishi Electric. The collaboration resulted in a high-performance system integrating state-of-the-art automation technologies, ensuring seamless operation and future scalability.

    CHALLENGE: Enhancing Automation for High-Speed, High-Quality Printing

    JK Machinery faced several key challenges in upgrading its automated printing press:

    • Complex Roll-to-Roll Process: The machine required precise control over unwinding, printing, and rewinding processes to ensure high-speed, high-quality output.
    • Synchronous Motion Control: Coordinating multiple servo axes for seamless printing operations demanded ultra-fast and reliable automation.
    • Ease of Programming: JK Machinery wanted an intuitive solution that would not require specialist coding skills for configuration and operation.
    • Scalability & Footprint Reduction: The new system needed to accommodate additional functionalities while maintaining a compact design

      To optimise the performance and flexibility of the printing system, JK Machinery integrated Mitsubishi Electric’s advanced automation solutions, including:

      • FR-A800-R2R Variable Speed Drive (VSD): Ensuring precise control of unwinding and rewinding operations with built-in roll-to-roll functions, eliminating the need for custom coding.
      • MELSERVO-J4 Servo Drives: A master servo controlling the line shaft for print stations, with two additional servo axes managing the in-feed and out-feed nip rollers.
      • MELSEC iQ-F FX5 PLC: Delivering high-speed processing and accuracy with a simple motion module for synchronised operations.
      • CC-Link IE Field Basic Network: Providing real-time communication for precise, deterministic control of the entire system.
      • GOT2000 HMI: Enabling operators to monitor and adjust settings effortlessly through an intuitive interface.

      The modular system design allows for seamless expansion, ensuring adaptability to evolving production needs.
